Skindred – Electric Avenue

Shark Bites and Dog Fights

Song: Electric Avenue
Cover Artist: Skindred
Album (Year): Shark Bites and Dog Fights (2009)
Original Artist: Eddy Grant

If you haven’t heard of Skindred before, imagine Bob Marley fronting a metal band. Even then you’d not quite have the right mental image. The band describes themselves as Ragga Metal. I prefer to call them awesome.

Electric Avenue was originally released on Eddy Grant’s 1983 album Killer On The Rampage, and is a great bit of 80’s era Electronic fused with Reggae. Skindred covers it on their third album Shark Bites and Dog Fights, replacing the electronic elements with heavy guitar riffs and Benji’s signature vocal delivery. It stays true to the nature of Eddy Grant’s version, yet also manages to sound as if it could be a Skindred original.
