H.I.M. – Wicked Game

RazorbladeRomance

Song: Wicked Game
Cover Artist: H.I.M.
Album (Year): This Is Only the Beginning(1995) – Razorblade Romance (1999)
Original Artist: Chris Isaak

Wicked Game was originally released on Chris Isaak’s third album ‘Heart Shaped World’ (1989), but didn’t take off until it was used in the soundtrack to ‘Wild At Heart’ in 1991 where it went on to become Isaak’s biggest US hit.

H.I.M. first covered this song on their 1995 ‘This Is Only the Beginning’ demo and their 1996 ‘666 Ways to Love: Prologue’ ep. This version has quite a few mistakes due to the fact that they tried to learn the song from a taped copy of the ‘Wild at Heart’ soundtrack. The poor quality of the tape led to them messing up some of the instrument parts and misunderstanding several of the lyrics. They recorded a new version for their 1997 debut album ‘Greatest Love Songs Vol. 666′ and finally the Amberican and British versions of their second album ‘Razorblade Romance’. The fixed version is included below.

H.I.M. did a good job at covering this song. They could’ve completely botched it, but they didn’t. Sounds very similar to the original, which is awesome, and gave it a little kick. Nice job :)
